GEOGRAPHY

Madakkathara is a village in Kerala's Thrissur district,  It holds significant geographical importance as a hub for agricultural education, a center for plant nurseries, and a critical electrical node for the state. 

Key Geographical Features

  • Agricultural Hub: Situated adjacent to the Western Ghats' foothills, the village's undulating terrain—ranging from hills to lush valleys—is perfect for rubber plantations and paddy fields.

  • The Mannuthy-Vellanikkara Belt: The region is a renowned center for horticulture and agriculture, housing the main campus of the Kerala Agricultural University (KAU). This institution heavily influences the local climate monitoring, soil research, and botanical studies for central Kerala.

  • Energy Node: Geographically, Madakkathara serves as a crucial transit point for power distribution in Kerala. It hosts a major 400 kV Substation operated by the Power Grid Corporation of India and KSEB.

  • Strategic Location: Located just a few kilometers east of Thrissur city along the National Highway (NH 544), it acts as a transition zone between the bustling urban limits of Thrissur and the forested, hilly tracts of the Peechi-Vazhani wildlife areas.
