HistoryMadakkathara Grama Panchayat is a panchayat with unique features consisting of mountains, hills, canals, and rice fields. It has 18 wards.According to the ancients, the people of the Perumpadappu royal family occupied land in many places and built forts. Since there were many forts like this, this place came to be known as Kottepaadam.There was an area in this grama panchayat where the Poovvam tree was spread out and surrounded by a forest. This forest area is known as Kattila Poovvam by adding the name of the tree and later it was shortened and is now known as Kattilapoovvam.It is said that the ancients read in the legends that in the past, Lord Shiva went for alms with a bowl of water and then threw it away. The place where this water fell was known as Chirakkathode. Over time, this changed to Chirakkakode.Kurinji means mountain.
